Alternates

The Mandela Catalogue is an analog horror franchise created by American YouTuber Alex Kister, created in 2021. Primarily taking place between the 1990s and early 2010s, the series is set in the fictional Mandela County and focuses on the invasion of otherworldly entities referred to as "Alternates" that psychologically torture their victims, often to the point of suicide, with the ultimate goal of assuming their identities as doppelgängers. As of July 2026, the series comprises two acts totaling six volumes and thirteen shorter installments, usually focused on smaller aspects of the overarching story. Upon its inception, the series became popular online, in part due to reaction videos and story analyses of it by internet users and YouTubers. As of July 2026, a film adaptation co-written and directed by Kister is in development from United Artists, Amblin Entertainment, and Paper Street Pictures.
